Anyone here do anything different from the requirements of the owners manual? For example, Use a different oil? - I believe the 6.4 comes from the factory with Pennzoil and my dealer says that is what they use. -or a "custom" oil? or different change schedule? - I see synthetics that are recommended to go longer than what is recommended in the manual. So far I am just following the owners manual and taking it to the dealer.
Nobody has any maintenance comments? We keep our vehicles for a long time, so maintenance has a high priority.
Lol, so my schedule is when it needs something I trade it in haha. While mine is under warranty I plan to change the oil every 6 months at the dealer.
I know that oil brand and type can cause heated discussions. I’m sure you have seen the thread on RamForum lol
I am guilty of doing more maintenance on my vehicles than is required by the manual. In the case of my Scat Pack the first oil change was at 1000 miles and my plan was every 6 months or 5,000 miles thereafter (that actually is the OCI I use for all my vehicles). Since I don’t drive anything very much any more, the changes have been every 6 months. The Scat Pack now has 3,300 miles on it and I have changed the oil and filter 4 times in the last 2 years. I always use the best oil (that meets spec) I can find in everything I own. In the case of the Scat Pack, I don’t think you can get any better oil than PUP 0W-40 so that is what it gets. Everything always get synthetic oil. The good news on the rest of the maintenance schedule is there is not much to do. Tire rotations every 5,000 miles and engine and cabin air filters (more frequent than required). Don’t plan on transmission or differential fluid changes any time soon but I would if I drove the car hard or tracked it (I don’t and never will). The car will be traded long before a coolant change is required. Historically, I never take my vehicles to the dealers for anything except warranty work (with the exception of my wife’s BMWs). I buy the parts from the dealer and keep the receipts on file (my dealer gives great pricing on everything including oil). I install everything myself although this is getting harder every day given my age and health issues. .
years ago i was willing to do my own oil changes, but then it turned out doing it at the dealer wasn't really any more expensive and I didn't have to worry about the hassle of clean up and disposal of the old oil. Now of day thought its definitely more expensive at the dealer but the convenience is worth it to an extent
